"In fact, rubber trees are very 'delicate' and sensitive to low temperatures and strong winds." Huang Huasun, chief scientist of the national natural rubber industry technology system, said that China's rubber planting area is located in the northern edge of the tropics, cold waves, typhoon weather is frequent, it is not suitable for rubber tree growth, and the introduced varieties lack resistance, and the growth rate is slow. The same variety, the domestic growth is slower than the foreign for several years.
Today, Li Weiguo, Gao Xinsheng and other young researchers have also brought vitality to the cause of rubber breeding, and they will focus on new breeding technologies such as rubber tree gene editing and molecular markers, and promote high-quality development of rubber breeding with new quality productivity.
At present, the Rubber Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Thermal Sciences has systematically collected and preserved 6,462 rubber tree germplasm resources, and screened 79 cold-resistant and wind-resistant high-yielding germplasm resources, building the world's largest number of cold-resistant and wind-resistant germplasm resources with the best properties.
Natural rubber products are also gradually moving towards high-end applications. The institute has successfully developed special natural rubber for aircraft tires such as C919 and ARJ21. These special tires have passed the dynamic performance test verification of 24 types of aircraft tires, and some have successfully completed the test flight under plateau conditions.
